the crazyleggerscrazylegs classic volunteers get the work done

From start to finish, handling all the planning and execution of the race, a small group of men and women volunteers run the Crazylegs Classic, working with the cooperation and assistance of the University of Wisconsin National W Club

Tom Grantham, of Merrill Lynch, one of the originators of the Crazylegs Run in 1982, is again General Chairman. Jim Bradley, of Home Savings, has been Race Director for many years. They head up an Executive Committee of volunteers who come back year after year because they enjoy the "work" and want to help the athletic program.

To volunteer please see the form at the bottom of this page.

become a crazylegger! sign up to volunteer for the 2010 crazylegs classic

Walk Start Line

As a start line volunteer for the walk, you will report to Stan Richter at State and Mifflin streets at 9:00 a.m. on Race Day. Stan will start the walk
promptly at 10:00. Your role will be to organize the participants into three groups for the purpose of a wave start. Last year there were about 5,000 walkers so this will be a formidable task. As a volunteer, you will receive a Crazylegs Volunteer T-shirt which is your "ticket" for free refreshments and admittance to the Post Race celebration at Camp Randall Stadium following the run/walk.

Water Stop

On Saturday morning (Race Day), you should report to the Picnic Point Water Stop near Lot 60. Your area supervisor is Dave Gill and he will give you your Crazylegs Volunteer T-shirt. Be prepared to fill a lot cups because there will be at least l0,000 runners! After the run has been completed, your Crazylegs Volunteer T-shirt is your "ticket" for free refreshments and admittance to the Post Race celebration at Camp Randall Stadium.

Finish Line

We have filled all of the spots for finish line volunteers! Thank you. On Saturday (Race Day) at 9:00 a.m., stadium through GATE A of the Field House, located above the ticket office on Monroe Street, and report to the Volunteer Check In and Information Booth, located at concession stand Z3 in the south end zone. You will receive your t-shirt here, and will be assigned to one of several tasks at the finish line. (Crowd control, water distribution, ushering runners off the field) Due to the fact that we no longer are in need of chip removal, the number of volunteers for the finish line will be capped at 30. (This is a significant departure from previous years) Finally, all volunteers are welcome to attend the Post Race Celebration at the Stadium. Your t-shirt is your “ticket” for free refreshments and admittance.

Course Marshals

As Course Marshals, you will function as a traffic cop for the participants in the run/walk. In short, you are the eyes and ears of the race and your role is vital. We are asking you to bring a cell phone (911) to report any injury or related problem should an accident occur. You will be assigned a specific location and should report to your area at 9:00 a.m. on Race Day. You will be given a Crazylegs Volunteer T-shirt at that time. Your Crazylegs Volunteer T-shirt is your "ticket" for free refreshments and admittance to the Post Race celebration at Camp Randall Stadium following the race.

You can volunteer by filling out the form below.
