For the Benefit of UW Athletics All proceeds go to the UW Athletic Department |
The race, a fundraiser, is named in honor of the legendary Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch. Elroy, the native son of Wausau who won All-American honors as a collegian and NFL Hall of Fame designation before becoming Athletic Director at the University of Wisconsin. The event has raised close to $3 million to support UW athletics, underwriting scholarships for men and women student-athletes in all sports.
“There has never been a more loved and admired ambassador for Badger sports than Elroy Hirsch,” says former Director of Athletics Pat Richter. “His charismatic and charming personality brought smiles to so many Badger fans. Anyone who came in contact with him enjoyed a special treat. He loved life, loved people and loved the Badgers.” |
